Description
This was midday of the fourth day at the CPAWS Dumoine River Art Camp - Sunday. I decided to paint on the shore of Robinson Lake after returning from Grande Chute and the early morning painting session. The Subaru Forester was getting low on gas and I needed to reserve enough in the tank to get back the 35 kilometres or so to Swisha. The rest of the paintings were all completed from the same spot on the north shore of Robinson Lake. The bugs were still hungry so the mesh suit of armour was essential.
I had very few canvases left so I started to paint on my canoe panels that I keep in special water proof plastic containers.
The Dumoine River Art Camp Open House had started and visitors were arriving for the 11 am to 3 pm meet and greet. The artists including myself painted around the camp and demonstrated what we did. Every artist was somewhat different with varying materials, techniques and styles. Tina and Angela were painting with me. Jesse and a friend, the mother of Chrisophe came to visit us paint.
This is the view turned southward directly across Robinson Lake. The far shore was back lit and very dark. I featured some canoes from the Art Camp visitors in this painting. They were enjoying a few more days of adventure going down the Dumoine. The leader had canoed the route 42 times. Others that were mentioned including Don Smith had stopped counting their Dumoine paddling adventures after reaching more than 100. I enjoyed including the canoes on the small and very rough panel with just a very few bold strokes. Plein air painting needs to be spontaneous and fun.
