San Francisco Nights . 7D14028
Ever wandered out to the end of the Aquatic Pier in San Francisco's Aquatic Park next to Fisherman's Wharf and you see this one structure that looks like it could have been leftover from World War II as part of a military battery similar to the ones you see up in the San Francisco Presidio hills? Well, that would have been a great story if it was in fact a military battery. Sorry, no such drama. But history it has. It turns out that structure at the end of Aquatic Pier was originally designed by William Mooser as one of three "comfort stations" stylistically compatible to the surrounding architecture. Comfort stations in more traditional terms are restrooms! Yes, that structure at the end of Aquatic Pier was designed as a restroom, but it was the only one of three that was never completed. Nonetheless, the comfort station would serve the imagination better as what it looks like, which again is some old military battery as artistically depicted and rendered in this work of art, a scene no less than hours after the great battle, the big guns obscured by the angle facing and defending enemies entering the Bay through the Golden Gate. Calm has now settled in this moon lit night, but the scars of war still linger in this San Francisco Night. -W
